1977 Lincoln Versailles
On the anniversary of Bach's birth, we ask
"Which vintage Lincoln would Bach have driven, had
Bach driven a vintage Lincoln?" I think it would have
been the 1977 Lincoln Versailles. 351-cubic feet, V-8 engine.
It says in the Big Book of Lincoln, "The '77 Versailles
offered little technical novelty from previous Lincolns.
Stress was laid on quality control and finish, such as luxurious
fittings and insulation." The '77 Versailles was roomy:
55.8 inches of shoulder room, 51.2 inches of hip room. It
made for a splendid success for the Lincoln Versailles.
Bach would have felt right at home in the
1977 Lincoln Versailles. Witness his Orchestral Suite No.1,
which is a suite of luxurious dances. These were not technical
novelties themselves, but Bach stressed quality control
and finish in them. And they are dances that harken back
to the splender of Versailles.
